Monster Octagon Over-Ear Headphones are an official headphones of UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) and feature a striking and aggressive design that stands out from the crowd of other designer headphones.

Right of the bet, it is very clear that these headphones will cater to all bass lovers out there. But as we know, making a good, bass-heavy headphones is not just not a simple task since all other aspects of headphone design have to fit equally in place.

Design and build quality

Monster Octagon headphones are available in either in black or red color and both of them look pretty great in our opinion.

Of course, these are not your average style neutral headphones and wearing them with a suit would probably not be a good idea unless you sport a hefty amount of neck tattoos.

DJ-style swiveling padded ear cups ensure a good fit with all head shapes and sizes. There are no annoying squeaks and the overall level of build quality is up to part with headphones in this price range.

They do have some weight to them, so it is definitely possible that you will start to feel them after you have them on your head for more than hour. This gets better with time, but it is something that you should be expecting when you first unbox them.

Our favorite part of these headphones have to be their earcups. They are soft and comfortable with a beautiful red stitching that adds that extra premium look and feel. Matte plastic does not attract any fingerprints and look very attractive.

Both cables that come with these headphones are heavy-duty and feature gold-plated connectors with sufficient stress reliever on both ends.

It is not probable that these headphones will be used in a studio setting, but it is still nice that you get an extra coiled cable. You can use it with your laptop or computer and not worry about the extra length getting in your way.

Sound

Monster is one of those companies that just cannot seem to get by without making many over-the-top statements about their products.

Monster promises the ultimate sound experienced with unmatched clarity and depth. This is something that we would normally look for in $1000+ audiophile headphones and not a pair of stylish, UFC-affiliated, $200+ over-ear headphones.

Monster Octagon Headphones scream bass. That is exactly what most people would expect before purchasing these and this is also where these headphones really deliver on their promises.

The bass is tight, deep, well-defined, and does not corrupt mid-ranges and it is often the case with other bass heavy headphones. Now, I have just said that these are bass heavy, but it actually depends on your point for reference. If you compare these to your regular studio monitor headphones, then yes. These have a huge amount of extra bass.

On the other hand, if you take, for example, Beats by Dre then Monster Octagon Over-Ear Headphones are actually much more subdued and tame in comparison. They offer a much more well-balanced sound that does not over-emphases bass frequencies to the point where it becomes almost obnoxious.

The same can be said about mid-frequencies. They are very clear and responsive and truly stand out with rock music. The highs are the only weakness of these headphones. The good thing is that they are not fatiguing at all. You can listen to your music for long hours without any need to take them off and give your ears a few minutes of rest, but they slightly lack in instrument separation and clarity.

That is something that will probably never really become any significant issue for most people since these are going to be used mainly with more mainstream genres of music that are mixed with a lower equality of headphones and playback devices in mind.

The last, but not least important aspect of any headphones is their sound isolation and level of leakage. Monster Octagon Over-Ear Headphones pleasantly surprised us in both categories. Their offer a very good level of passive sound isolation that lets you enjoy your music even on the board of a loud bus or train and are thus perfect for regular commuters or people with loud roommates or neighbors.

Their sound leakage is pretty much minimal and you do not have to worry about people near you hearing every word of the song you are currently playing. If you stick to moderate volumes than Monster Octagon headphones do not leak almost any sound at all. If you crack up the volume then you can hear the bass, but that is pretty much all.
